Stade Rennais v West Ham United
Stade Rennais v West Ham United
Pre-season match, Roazhon Park, Saturday 29 July 2023, 6pm CEST (5pm BST)

West Ham United’s pre-season preparations take another step forward as the Irons get ready to face Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais

The Hammers’ penultimate pre-season match of the summer campaign will see David Moyes and his squad travel to Brittany and face Bruno Génésio’s team, who finished fourth in the French top flight last season.

This week saw manager Moyes have almost his full squad of senior players to train, after most of those on international duty returned to Rush Green, and Saturday’s clash will give the boss a chance to work with close to a full ensemble of first-team players.

The Irons have played four pre-season matches so far this summer, starting the schedule with a 4-1 win at National League side Boreham Wood before a pair of wins during the ‘Unmissable Football’ tour in Australia, beating A-League side Perth Glory 6-2 and fellow Premier League Londoners Tottenham Hotspur 3-2. The most recent outing was a 2-2 draw at Dagenham & Redbridge in a first pre-season run out for the returning internationals.

Rennes are unbeaten in their two pre-season matches played to date, drawing 1-1 with Ligue 2 newcomers Concarneau, before defeating fourth-tier Union Sportive Saint-Malo 2-1.

Saturday’s match will be available to watch on the West Ham United YouTube channel, with the live action commencing roughly five minutes before kick-off.

Coverage will also be available through our live match centre, bringing you all the action from Roazhon Park. Live coverage will begin 90 minutes before kick-off.

Highlights and full reaction will also be viewable at whufc.com across Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Moyes fell in love with the long diagonal ball at Everton. He’ll never change. We are again praying for three worse teams until this stubborn dinosaur gets the poetic hoof. He is in total self preservation mode while we all watch in despair as the inevitable circus plays out under the deluded dwarf and lady Brady leaving at us Christmas looking for a new manager to turn the tugboat around

Solid
Can't agree. We several very good players.
Scamacca, Bowen,Nagerd and Mubama.
Moyes makes 1 player look good but then makes 6 look shit. Fornals today why out there.
Mubama showed great touch and awareness but after Paqueta went off the formation was diabolical and disgraceful.
All the youngsters who played well off late have been shipped out to crap league 1 teams or worse. We then have to put up with Coufal and Soucek who can't trap
cement

Seems people are waiting on Moyes developing a tactic which isn’t hoof.

Don’t mean to piss on your chips, he won’t.

Moyes holding out for PL proven players, well if someone else’s signing go tits up, and we’re bottom 3 come November he gets the sack.
Knowing that information would you take the leprechaun’s signings or the Kraut’s when it’s you who gets the sack for failure?
Rather fall on my own sword than someone else’s.

One highlight was around 6
Min something when Soucek passed it off the pitch nowhere near the player.

Predictable. Stank out Europe again but never got the lucky win. Only a friendly they’ll say.

What is disappointing is that Moyes still hasn't developed an out ball that isn't a hoof. For a defensive minded coach it's very difficult to comprehend that hasn't been developed

Luton away before the international break could be pivotal

The fact is every player we have is bang average apart from Paqueta.

It might only be a pres season game but it was quite clear to me todsy we have some real issues in that side. The quality of Paqueta and Bowen won't be enough to keep us up.
Call me a knicker wetter, call me a doom merchant or whatever but I've said from the start I think we will go down this season and nothing will change my opinion on that. I just hope and pray my gut instinct is wrong.

Re: Stade Rennais v West Ham United
I actually think we look more fluid than last season tbh. Definitely more creative on the ball.
I dont think I'd read as much into the score line being that Rennes finished 4th in Ligue 1 last season and we finished 14th.

The thing I feel is that we look a bit weak defensively in terms of closing attacks down. We probably do need another CB.

I also wish Benny concentrated more with his finishing. I suppose if Benny could finish more accurately he'd be at Madrid not here. So you can't have everything.

I'm trying to be positive as I know the team will never perform to its potential with Moyes, but I'm just hoping we start the season well. I can't deal with last seasons league performance again.

Re: Stade Rennais v West Ham United
Kehrer had to be the player just one step too slow didnt he. I cant defend him much longer...the game itself showed us ot be uninspiring, turgid and predictable. It was just fucking horrilbe seeing Moyes jump up and yell instructions that you know are more about holding players back than telling them to play an expansive game.
I truly fear for next season without dramatic changes in the squad which is unlikely.

Doing ok till paqueta went off bit devoid of ideas after that ,good run out

Uninspiring FC. Relegation will look even classier with that massive JD SPORTS logo on the arm too.

Clearly the tactic was working it wide and cross. Absolutely shit.

Re: Stade Rennais v West Ham United
A good run out. Showed how exposed we are with no quality in centre midfield. Cant play out, hoof ball long back to opposition. Worrying performances from a few of them. Given this lot are a Europa league side and easily cut through our team, I'd be concerned about how many we will concede to decent PL sides. Certainly miles away from competing against Europa league sides.
Effort was good from Coufal, Bowen, Mubama and Paqueta but just not enough quality in general.

Whoever he picks for the team it’s the same dull negative shape. Boring.
